News: Blues broadcaster Pete Feenstra celebrates 600 shows on Get Ready to ROCK! Radio

13 October 2025 News

Author, broadcaster and lyricist Pete Feenstra celebrates his 600th show on Get Ready to ROCK! Radio on Tuesday 14 October.

Pete’s first show for the online station was 14 January 2014 when he presented an hour of blues/blues rock.  This was expanded to two hours six months later.  Since that time the show has been a popular feature of the station, complementing Pete’s role as Features Editor and Blues Editor at www.getreadytorock.com (GRTR!)

Over the years Pete has won several awards including the Best Blues Show (European Blues) and Blues Broadcaster of the Year promoted by UKBlues.

Pete says: “Back in 2014 I was Mc’ing and DJ’ing The Skegness Rock & Blues Show and Minehead Giants of Rock, something I did for three years.  As a result I was asked by Get Ready to ROCK! Radio if I had thought about doing a radio show.

I was also a rock blues promoter and reviewing for GRTR!, The Blues Mag, and various other outlets.  I saw it as a two-fold opportunity to play some great music and highlight some equally great tour bands. So hell yeah!

I remember the very first track I played wasn’t even broadcast, as I forgot to plug a lead in.  (Apologies to Albert Collins and Roadhouse, though the latter did end up on that first show)

Pretty soon I expanded into the Pete Feenstra Feature interview show and I hoped that if nothing else some folks might gravitate towards the kind of music you rarely hear on mainstream radio.

A lot has changed since those days. Physical albums have decreased, though vinyl sales have gone up, but the cost of postage (especially internationally) means most of the music is now digital, so it’s good to also wave the flag for the disappearing world of album artwork where possible.”

Says Programme Manager David Randall: “Pete has worked tirelessly on his weekly show as part of our blues rock marathon, using his unrivalled knowledge to plunder back catalogue whilst highlighting newer developments in his specialist field.  The Rock & Blues Show is complemented by a weekly interview show when Pete chats to the movers and shakers of the blues rock world.”

Says Pete: “Going back to the 600th show, I will be playing some old, new and personal favourites plus – as on my original show – Jackie McAuley (Them, Trader Horn, Poormouth, etc) one of the most underrated musicians of our time.

I hope you can join me, or at least check out the shows via my dedicated presenter page.  Original efforts were spartan, tentative and sometimes laughable, but hopefully the music triumphed.”

The 600th show is on Tuesday 14 October at 19:00 BST (GMT+1); repeated on Wednesday 15th (22:00) and Friday 17th (20:00).

In the “GRTR! Archive” sequence (w/c 13 October) the station replays Pete’s very first show (Monday 13 October, 16:00; Thursday 16 October, 23:00).

Get Ready to ROCK! Radio can be accessed via the station website or via various apps including Tune-in and iTunes.
