Thea Gilmore features in our singer/songwriter and classic rock sequences

Thea Gilmore released her debut album ‘Burning Dorothy’ in 1998.  Since that time she has gained numerous plaudits from both the media and fellow artists including Bruce Springsteen and Joan Baez, with whom she appeared on the album ‘Liejacker’ in 2008.

Thea’s early musical influences were taken from her father’s record collection including Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell but she also cites Tom Waits and Leonard Cohen.

Most of her musical career has been entwined with one person, her partner (and producer), but post-2020 that relationship broke down due to “coercive control”.  This also extended to Thea’s musical direction.  Her 2021 album ‘Afterlight’ is a bitter document of that break-up but, with successive albums, she has wrestled back her creative muse and as an artist she is fiercely independent.

In February 2025, coinciding with the release of a new album ‘These Quiet Friends’, Get Ready to ROCK! launched a new feature series ‘GRTR! Greats’ celebrating the work of artists reviewed by the website over an extended period.  Thea has been repeatedly described by the review team as “one of the finest singer songwriters of her generation”.
